Good Friday and Easter Sunday are perhaps the most significant days of the church calendar, and yet, in a real sense, we live our lives on Saturday, the day in between. Philip Yancey

Sweet Six Weeks

Today, Yummy You...

Are Six Weeks Old!

"Little" Esther,

Not sleeping for very long stretches yet,

Perhaps why you were over 10lbs already,

Two weeks ago.

You love to nurse, often.

This is our other mutually happy place.

It's like aloe on a sunburn I didn't know I had.

The primary comfort I could provide Lydia, especially in her last months, was pharmaceutical.

There was nothing warm and fuzzy about consulting the med log and drawing up a syringe of sedative,

To quiet my hurting baby.

Being able to nurture,

Keep you so content with my mere touch...

There are no adequate words.

Aloe is a start.

You have been cooing,

Laughing in your sleep,

Intently following me with your eyes,

Smiling.

You are also just starting to grumpily protest the antidote to very heavy eyes.

Your tears aren't so salty.

We can work through that part too.

Your sleep resistance has cut out my lovely afternoon naps though.

After more than a month of blissful babymoon,

I suppose it was time for life to start shifting back into balance.

Yet it still seems I'm being served an awful lot of dessert.

Happy Six Week Birthday!

To You, Esther,

And to My Soft New Mommy Skin.

  1. Allison,
Thanks for the new word! Never heard of babyhood before, but it is so apt for your story.

Love the word pic of "It's like aloe on a sunburn I didn't know I had."

    Beautiful!

    Love you,
    Dad
